Emaan Qirat launches Heritage Collection

Taking inspiration from traditional batik art and Dumbara weaving, Emaan Qirat introduced its Heritage Collection to the UK market. The Collection consists of six designs in various styles like, Kimonos, Shirt Dresses and Tops. The collection is aimed at creating exposure for the two skilled art forms of creating stunning patters to an international market. While Batik is fairly known, as it is popular in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia, Dumbara weaving is a traditional art form that can do with a bit more exposure. Batik Designs

Batik is a pattern making art that has limitless possibilities in terms of creativity. From random cracks and dots to geometric patterns, this art form offers the artisan to express their unique skills in many ways. This type of pattern making is also popular in Indonesia and Malaysia (among other countries), but we found the Sri Lankan patterns to be more appealing to our style! Also, the search for Batik in Sri Lanka led us to this gem of an art form that is Dumbara weaving.

Dumbara Weaving

Dumbara weaving, we are told, is an art form that goes back many generations. Traditionally used for tapestry art, with the right mix of threads, it can also be used for garments. Unfortunately, it also appears to be an art form under threat of going in to obscurity. Only a few families practice this weaving art form. Due to a lack of exposure and viable economic return, understandably, there is little interest in from the current generations to continue this art form. Let’s hope that these traditional artisan’s and their next generation find the exposure that they and their talent so rightly deserve.
